Great commercial shoot last week for the Executive Fantasy Hotel chain in Miami. I was hired to shoot the interiors of some of their rooms. These hotels are very popular for their theme rooms which are dark with a mixture of colorful incandescent and fluorescent lighting. This is a photographers color temperature kaleidoscope or should I say nightmare! I primarily shot with my Zeiss 21mm lens which is super sharp at it’s f/8 sweet spot. This is an old school lens without auto focus so live view manual focus at hyperfocal distance was the game plan. I also experimented with my Canon 15mm f/2.8 fisheye for some interesting perspectives. The biggest challenge was not getting in the picture – the rooms have numerous mirrors! I created several panoramics by stitching 6 to 10 images leading to the super wide effect. Tripod and long exposures were a necessity since I passed on using strobes to maintain the romantic ambiance.
Three cheers for the lovers!
Bubbles were a must!
